A healthcare reform expert finds it difficult to reconcile the Obama administration’s concern about the rising cost of healthcare while hundreds of billions more tax dollars are being dumped into the health sector.

President Obama hosted a group of lawmakers, doctors, hospital officials, and advocates at a White House summit on healthcare reform yesterday. Among other things, the president wants to set aside $634 billion in a healthcare reserve fund over the next ten years with the main goal of achieving universal coverage. According to Obama,“Healthcare reform is no longer just a moral imperative,it is a fiscal imperative.”

Grace Marie Turner, president of the Galen Institute, believes pumping nearly a trillion dollars more into the health sector in just the last month is going to cause a much larger role for government and shrink the role of individuals and families to make their own decisions about their healthcare coverage.
