Our Aging Nuclear Deterrent

America’s Nuclear deterrent must be maintained

President Obama dreams of a world without nuclear weapons. Unless testing and maintenance of our nuclear deterrent is resumed,it will be a world without American nuclear weapons.

In his Prague speech this spring,the president spoke of "America’s commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons,"ignoring the fact that before 1945 we lived in such a world and it was neither peaceful nor secure.

We recently observed the anniversaries of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki,actions that brought an abrupt end to the carnage of World War II and arguably have prevented the wars since from escalating to another worldwide conflict. Nuclear weapons in the right hands are instruments of peace.

The argument that the world is threatened by nuclear weapons falls flat when you consider Britain and France have them and that neither we nor anyone else is threatened by them in any way.

We are threatened only by nukes in the hands of maniacal thugs in Iran and North Korea. There is no treaty that will reduce that threat.
Yet President Obama appears ready and willing to sacrifice America’s nuclear readiness by avoiding the testing and maintenance necessary to keep our deterrent ready and credible.
