Obama takes his message straight to all school kids
My wife Diane seldom gets upset about politics. But President Barack Obama’s recent demonstration of megalomania in insisting on beginning the school year by simultaneously addressing all public school kids in the United States elicited a concise response:“it’s sick.”
In addition to her Ph.D. in psychology,Diane holds an M.A. in Education,and both primary and secondary teaching credentials in California. She has raised and educated our three kids,each of whom received some combination of home schooling,parochial education,and public schools. What bothers her (and many courageous teachers across the country) is the crude attempt by the Department of Education and the White House to blur all distinctions between education and cult-of-personality propaganda.
On September 8th (the first day of classes for many school kids) the President will address them live about the importance of education. The President will challenge students to work hard,set educational goals and take responsibility for their learning,declares an announcement from Washington. The Secretary of Education,Arne Duncan,sent a directive to teachers and administrators declaring:“This is the first time an American president has spoken directly to the nation’s school children about persisting and succeeding in school. We encourage you to use this historic moment to help your students get focused and begin the school year strong. I encourage you,your teachers,and students to join me in watching the President deliver this address on Tuesday,September 8,2009.”
How do you extrapolate that the President of the United States encouraging the children of America to become educated is some kind of indoctrination? Ever hear of Civics class? Talk about trying to generate controversy over nothing. It's absurdist rhetoric like this that turns off independent voters.

Obama Youth/Hitler Youth. If I remember my history correctly,the Hitler Youth were indoctrinated by being forced to listen to der Fuhrer and State approved educators who espoused the thoughts and doctrines of der Fuhrer. I am so glad that my children have finished their education and that my grand-daughter is being educated in a private school so she will not be forced to listen to der Fuhrer.
Yeah,yeah –let your kids listen to fat boy Rush. Maybe he will tell them where they can get some oxy. Since fat boy flunked every college course he ever took,I can understand why he is against anyone encouraging education.
To call the President Hitler is acting the fool don't you think.
Is it appropriate for the leader of the free world to talk to American schoolchildren about the importance of education? Are you freaking kidding? Is education now an evil thing,or maybe it is the idea of a powerful,intelligent,accomplished,articulate black man influencing the nation's youth that's painful to Beck,Rush and there ilk.
It is amazing to me that so many Americans buy into the pandering of Beck and Rush who are laughing all the way to the bank.
Lack if education is killing the counties of Africa and other undeveloped nations around the world. It is also hindering the US of A. I live in a state with a high drop out rate and although my children are also out of school I believe reducing the school drop out rate will be of benefit to my grandchildren,greatgrandchildren and etc,etc.,whether they co to public or are fortunate enough to afford a private school.
To the Medveds:not being nearly so educated,with so many degrees as you two have,Mr. and Mrs. Medved,I must ask you for my education why you say the President's encouraging school children to stay in school and as much as possible finish their education is "not appropriate in a Constiututional republic". With your educational accomplishments I am certain you have studied and understand all the nuamces and meanings of the founding fathers and the words of our countrey's Constitution.
