The controversy over President Obama’s speech to the nation’s schoolchildren will likely be over shortly after Obama speaks today at Wakefield High School in Arlington,Virginia. But when President George H.W. Bush delivered a similar speech on October 1,1991,from Alice Deal Junior High School in Washington DC,the controversy was just beginning. Democrats, then the majority party in Congress, not only denounced Bush’s speech —they also ordered the General Accounting Office to investigate its production and later summoned top Bush administration officials to Capitol Hill for an extensive hearing on the issue.
Unlike the Obama speech,in 1991 most of the controversy came after, not before, the president’s school appearance. The day after Bush spoke, the Washington Post published a front-page story suggesting the speech was carefully staged for the president’s political benefit. "The White House turned a Northwest Washington junior high classroom into a television studio and its students into props,"the Post reported.
With the Post article in hand,Democrats pounced. "The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president,it should be helping us to produce smarter students,"said Richard Gephardt, then the House Majority Leader. "And the president should be doing more about education than saying,‘Lights, camera, action.’"
The Democrats are desperate. They can't stay focused on one issue because it starts sinking so they jump to another diversion(or smoking gun). I would like to see them close the deal on just one issue…or is that what a Community Organizer does is hop from pillar to post. He has so many issues…and that is just the things we are aware of. As I have said before"show me your friends and I will tell you who you are". We are finding that out daily. Honestly ,I thought he was smarter than this!!
Bait and Switch…Watch The Other Hand""
Somebody help me out. Last Friday,on the radio,I listened to the soundtrack of a 4.5 minute video produced and paid for by the Dept. of Education. The video must have been quite expensive and used Hollywood producers and actors. The content of the audio I heard was pure socialist propaganda with Obama speaking. Today's live speech was understandably very conservative. I would be hard pressed to find fault with the "live"speech. What I want to know is did they show the prepared video as well? I believe that the "lesson plan"provided to the schools was focused on the video. Phrases in the video included:"I pledge to serve Barack Obama…"I pledge to support stem cell research…""I pledge to love more"…etc.
So far,no one has mentioned the prepared video.
So,…did our children see and hear a video in addition to the Obama live address??
The American public is finally realizing the double standard that exists in our society. Currently,if it is a Liberal Democrat,or Progressive if you will, anything said or done is golden,at least according to the Liberals, and anything said or done by Republicans and/or Conservatives is rotten, hateful and undoubtedly racist. This bias, all too predominant in our "mainstream?"media,is only serving to divide our nation and could lead to out right confrontation. The Liberals, for some strange reason, think that they are the answer to anything facing America, but,as a safeguard in case their position fails on any issue, they always find ready-made scapegoats to take the blame. If they truly believe this to be honest to the American people, then,we are truly in trouble as a people. We might as well eliminate the "United"from the "United States"and call it a day.
