Obama is Squashing Internet freedom
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Obama is imposing more government regulation on the internet
Hardly anyone predicted the Internet and its consequences, with the amazing new freedom to communicate with almost anybody across the globe and easily look up facts. Who would have thought that someone could pull out a cell phone at dinner and have the most comprehensive encyclopedias in hand to peruse for information? All this was created without the federal government protecting us from the companies that were providing the service.
The Obama administration doesn’t hold the new freedom in high regard. The administration labels new regulations as "net neutrality." If enacted, new Federal Communications Commission regulations will change everything. The federal government not only will regulate prices (which is never a good idea), but also will eliminate any control by service providers over the programs they run on their systems.
Preventing Internet providers from charging higher prices to those who use more bandwidth will, the argument goes, benefit consumers. Unfortunately, although we all would like lower prices, things don’t work that way. Large downloads slow down the Internet. Not limiting those who want to make large downloads produces congestion, slowing down the rate at which others can access information on the Internet.

Wow, Expose Obama is posting some DUMB articles recently. Just because an article is against this administration does not mean it is a GOOD reason to be against Obama. I was PRO net-neutrality WAY before Obama was in office. This writer obviously has not a freakin' clue what net-neutrality is about. It has NOTHING to do with charging users for using more bandwidth. You can do that now and you can do that with net-neutrality IF it says it in the contract. HOWEVER when an ISP sells UNLIMITED Internet access at a certain speed it should be UNLIMITED. The point of net-neutrality is to make sure YOUTUBE downloads at the same speed as the ISP sponsored website because that ALLOWS fair competition. In addition did the author completely forget that most ISP's are government mandated monopolies in their local service areas? A government mandated monopoly can NEVER exist without regulation and oversight.

"All this was created without the federal government protecting us from the companies that were providing the service. "
Actually the internet was created by the government. I know all right-wingers are now 100% against the government ever since Obama won the election, just like you yelled at anyone who questioned the government before he won, but please get your history straight.

"The federal government not only will regulate prices"
No.
"It also will eliminate any control by service providers over the programs they run on their systems. "
No.
Net Neutrality has nothing to do with how much you get charged for your bandwidth. Net Neutrality is the idea that ISPs can't charge more to access content. If there is a 100kb website that is run by a competing company, Net Neutrality means that that 100kb gets the same treatment in the ISP's system as that ISP's own 100kb website. It also means that if Microsoft pays them a million dollars they can't just redirect everyone who types in google.com to bing. It's about freedom, so that the internet can be used the way people want to, rather than the way corporations want them to.
