Obama dithers while victory withers in Afghanistan
President Obama must show leadership over Afghanistan, and soon. His delay in announcing his plans looks less like deliberation and more like dithering.
A remarkable headline on an opinion piece about Afghanistan in The New York Times, following an interview with David Miliband: “Britain resolves, US wavers”. If the American press can look to policy on Afghanistan on this side of the Atlantic and see relative determination, vision and clarity of purpose, then things in Washington must be dire indeed.
It is now two months since General Stanley McCrystal, the commander of US and allied forces in Afghanistan, told President Obama that a surge of at least 40,000 troops was required for the international mission in that country to succeed. Mr Obama is not obliged to follow his recommendation, but he is obliged to do something other than sit on his own hands. “I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm’s way,” Mr Obama told the military, in a speech this week. This is not an unattractive sentiment. There is deliberation, nonetheless, and then there is dragging one’s feet.
Now is not a time for a president to dither. Yesterday, a Taleban suicide squad stormed a United Nations guesthouse in Kabul, leaving six international staff dead and nine injured. The Taleban do not carry out such attacks at random. They understand well the context in which they act, and do so in order to sway a decision that they believe can be swayed.

That is so true Bert. I remember how the communists said they would bury us from within. They wouldn't even have to use a bomb. They've got "OOO" to do the burying day in and day out. He's on a mission to destroy America and he's succeeded thus far. This man needs to be IMPEACHED.

This man is incapable of making a decision. Even if he wanted to, it has to be what he is TOLD to do by the "shadow government". He is nothing but a decoy while the takeover of America is being accomplished "behind closed doors". It has to appear as if it is "business as usual". The elites of this country, members of Bilderbergs (which most of his administration are), TriLateral Commission, Freemasonry, The United Nations – look up the members! We are watching this happen every day through the TV. It is SOOOOOOOO obvious! Marxist, Communism, every evil in this world of ours! Do your homework and PAY ATTENTION – I agree that this man and his czars need to be taken out of office for ABUSE OF POWER!!!!

I am SO SICK of this phoney dip wad!! This is just another of his photo shoots to TRY to make himself look good to the Americans he is forsakeing. While our military are over there fighting for their lives, this knothead prances around in front of cameras playacting the part of president & commander in chief. HE IS A JOKE!!
But I'm not laughing…he needs to be impeached for violation of the oath he took when he was sworn into office…you know…the one where he "swore" he would defend and uphold the United States Constitution. He's done anything BUT that. What a sorry excuse for a president.

Have any of you ever noticed ,when he gets off the plane, he gives that phony salute and never looks at the officer that is saluteing him.
Years ago when I was a teen, I asked my uncle if Russia would ever bomb us and he told me, no, this country will destroy itself from with in. That is exactly what this so called president is doing. I am 79 years old so you know how long ago that was.

This poor excuse for a Commander in Chief is hell bent on making every
soldier in Afghanistan another Vietnam veteran just like me. Whenever
he is in the company of any member of the military their body language says it all. He would never have gone to meet the returning honored dead if
his cameraman ran out of film. The only thing he is transparent on is his
dislike of and contempt for America and a large segment of her population.
