This author reported that last Monday Congressman Michael Burgess told a Tea Party gathering that impeachment “needs to happen.” Burgess,who represents the Ft. Worth area,quickly caught fire from the media in his area. The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram ran an editorial the next day entitled,“Impeachment is not a political tool,” stating that Burgess should have taken impeachment off the table. The newspaper’s editorial director,Jill “J.R.”Labbe,was kind enough to print my response,“Barack Obama Deserves Impeachment,” as a guest column this Monday. The printed version omits the paragraph that caught its mistake about President Andrew Johnson (although the editor told me the newspaper ran a retraction in the print edition;the online edition retains the historical error). The online version also eliminated my formatting. Below is my op-ed as it was submitted to the newspaper for publication. We are grateful for the opportunity to present another point of view. Barack Obama Deserves Impeachment

Congressman Michael Burgess has rendered the nation a service by placing Barack Obama’s impeachment on the national stage. As the editor of a website dedicated to impeaching Barack Obama – which its founder,Floyd Brown,states has delivered more than 2.5 million petitions to Congress – I know there is no question:Barack Obama has committed an ample number of “high crimes and misdemeanors.” His impeachment is not only warranted but may be necessary to defend our nation from his continued onslaught against our freedoms.
I therefore was profoundly disappointed by the Star-Telegram’s unsigned editorial,“Impeachment is Not a Political Tool” (August 9,2011). The author claimed the impeached President Andrew Johnson “quickly fell out of grace with the more radical elements of his own Republican party.” [sic.] Of course,Johnson never joined the Republican Party. Unfortunately,the rest of the editorial is as accurate as this assertion.
The Star-Telegram may find Burgess’ call to use impeachment to “tie things up” beyond the pale,but the Founders would not. In the Federalist Paper,No. 65 Alexander Hamilton described impeachment as “a bridle in the hands of the legislative body upon the executive servants of the government.” Hamilton wrote impeachable offenses “may with peculiar propriety be denominated POLITICAL.” (Emphasis in original.) The famed jurist Joseph Story wrote these “political offences” include not only crimes but “misconduct,or gross neglect,or usurpation,or habitual disregard of the public interests…unconstitutional opinions,” and “attempts to subvert” the law.
In the Founders’ eyes,President Obama has committed numerous impeachable offenses:
- The Libyan War. President Obama did not seek Congressional approval as the Constitution requires before placing troops in harm’s way,although he conferred with the United Nations and the Arab League. The War Powers Resolution requires the president to get Congressional authorization or remove all troops within 60-90 days. Instead,Obama attempted to skirt the law by redefining the term “hostilities,” a legal opinion rejected by his attorney general,Eric Holder.
- Race-based Justice. After the Justice Department dismissed voter intimidation charges against the Black Panthers,the head of its Voting Rights division testified about a “deep-seated opposition to the equal enforcement of the” law – that Obama is denying equal justice based on race. This fundamental perversion of the law is an impeachable offense.
- Not Defending the Border. The executive branch enforces existing law,but Obama has systematically ignored his duty and enacted a backdoor amnesty for illegal immigrants.
- Illegal Government Propaganda. Last August,Darrell Issa issued a 36-page report highlighting the president’s “sometimes unlawful…propaganda initiatives,” including having taxpayers pay blogger Tracy Russo to make pro-Obama comments on websites anonymously or under a pen name.
- Punishing Whistleblowers. The DHS may have illegally demoted Catherine Papoi for exposing its “illegal politicization” of Freedom of Information Act requests.
These are but a few examples. Contrary to your editorial,the time to hold Obama accountable has not “passed”;there is no statute of limitations on illegal wars. Founding Father James Wilson said,“No one should be secure while he violates the constitution.”
Impeachment is the Constitution’s self-defense mechanism. The late Congressman Peter Rodino – a Democrat – once wrote,“the framers intended impeachment to be a constitutional safeguard of the public trust.”
As Barack Obama shreds the Constitution,breaks statutory law,bankrupts the country,and presides over the TSA’s molestation of the pregnant,the elderly,and the infirm,the United States desperately needs Congressmen willing to “preserve,protect,and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
If only the Republican leadership in Washington had the courage of the Founders – or Congressman Burgess.

Doesn't persistent ,purposeful,and continued lying come under "crimes and misdemeanors??"
He doesn't deserve impeachment he deserves imprisonment the sooner then later because he lied his way into Our White House because he isn't An American he is Kenyan or Indonesian because he became an Indonesian so he could go to school there of which nobody has even spoken about and I know not why.
I agree with most of what you say Carol…BUT what I want to know is where's the record of SOBama ever swearing allegiance to the USA…?
Incidentally,SOBama had to become a Muslim in order to meet existing law of Indonesia requiring same to allow SOBama to attend a Muslim school.
Again…there's NO record of him denouncing Indonesian citizenship and swearing allegiance to the USA…Of course if he DID that it would prove he wasn't a natural born citizen in the first place…
How about fraud,like publically releasing a forged birth certiificate or using a social security number that could not be his unless he applied for it while a reident of Connecticut (identity theft)? This is the most fraudulent,traitorous,treasonous human being to ever hold the office of president—and even that's a fraud. He is anti-American and anti-Christian and full of hate for both. No American President has ever gone over seas and apologized for his country. He should be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail—like the "good ole days."He shouldn't be impeached,he should be arrested for fraud,identity theft,and a laundry list of uncontitutional decrees and frog-marched out of the White House.
It just pi**es me off that NO ONE IN THE HOUSE OF REP. has even tried to start impeachment proceedings,and you know that they know better than most of us all the laws he has broken,all his transgressions against America.

Amen and Amen! It is a disgrace that the actions and inactions of B Obama have been tolerated. People have looked the other way. They have made excuses. Obama was not even vetted properly,if at all. And now the new candidates are going to be vetted,as they should be. How unbalanced,though,can you get. I work with the black community in social services.I have a great compassion for the less fortunate. It does not matter what color they are. I say all this to say that I am not a bias person. Therefore,all men should be judged and evaluated and rewarded equally. When are people going to start doing their job and face the truth. I take my hat off to Ben Johnson and Burgess and all those that are not afraid to tell the truth. When is our government including the president going to be held accountable?When are we going to quit tolerating corruption?
Nancy Pelosi is really running this country. She holds the cards. She knew from day one he wasn't qualified and wanted to further her agenda. If we can't get who we want as president let's at least get one we can control. She's done a great job of it too. I hope she goes to jail along side of obama when they finally get caught. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The imposter in the White house will not EVER be MY president.

Push your Federal government representatives to demand a nationwide uniform voter ID. After all,if you are am voter you would want to make sure your vote counts. Lack of Media Treatment of Presidential Eligibility

The major network TV broadcasters and most of the print newspapers of this nation,especially the major east and west coast newspapers, together comprise what is commonly known as the "mainstream"media. Contemporary mainstream media staff tend to be strong central government enthusiasts –unsurprising since most of its members were educated in this era's resolutely liberal academia. In the present era,mainstream media reporting and commentary strongly reflects a common,socially liberal bias which convention acts to limit the philosophical scope of information available to its audiences.
This media consensus plays an especially important role in our society because it is by way of these media that a very substantial portion of the nation's electorate is generally informed –and under informed –and misinformed!
There has long been an "alternative media"–Bill Buckley's conservatively oriented National Review came on scene more than sixty years ago –and in recent years it has been refreshingly bolstered by "Talk Radio",by the Internet and,notably,by the emergence of Cable TV's popular Fox News Channel (FNC).
However,in a very important respect,a significant portion of the alternative media has joined the mainstream media in electing not to vet Barack Obama,the current White House presider,from both technical and ethical perspectives,with respect to his eligibility to serve as President of the United States. Among "conservative"print journals,the bi-weekly National Review and the monthly American Spectator (which conducted a cursory investigation in early 2008) refuse to treat the issue seriously. And,despite FNC's "fair and balanced"mantra,it is very clear that FNC corporate policy proscribes acknowledgement of an Obama eligibility issue by either its permanent staff or its contributors. Other respected "conservative"commentators –I think of George Will –have dismissed the issue with embarrassingly unprofessional ridicule!
This dedicated blindness of significant elements of the alternative press,along with that of the mainstream press,prevails without any challenges being made to published reports that Obama forces have invested close to two million dollars in legal expenses devoted to blocking exposure of routine Obama personnel records. This indifference obtains in spite of the fact that the birth certificate image released by the White House in April is conspicuously not a direct copy of a document that could be produced with equipment available in Obama's 1961 birth era. Importantly,it is not even declared by the Hawaiian government to be a true copy of an original certificate. In particular,the presumptive official government endorsement on the image released by the White House simply reads:
"I CERTIFY THIS IS A TRUE COPY OR
ABSTRACT OF TXE RECORD ON FILE IN
THE HAWAII STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH"
(my emphasis)
(The TXE misspelling appears in the White House copy. It might be noted that the H and X keys are quite far apart on a standard typewriter keyboard but modern optical character recognition{OCR} software could easily misread a poorly imprinted capital H as a capital X! There is,of course,no occasion for using OCR software in producing a direct photographic image.)
Whatever his shortcomings,Donald Trump had sufficient political clout to get the media,including Fox News folk,to acknowledge for a couple weeks that there is widespread public skepticism concerning Obama's eligibility,which skepticism was sufficient to provoke the White House into offering that deficient April release. The very making of that release was an act of desperation demonstrating that The White House can find no actual Obama birth certificate that it is willing to expose to public scrutiny.
It needs to be noted that popular media have conducted no forensic evaluation of a putatively important artifact nor of the intense Obama administration effort to obscure other potentially relevant documentation. We have as much objective basis for placing our faith in Barack Obama's story as we have for placing our faith in Casey Anthony's story.
Yet the popular media,including FNC's Bill O'Reilly and even FNC contributor Sarah Palin,cited that White House release as if it were a copy of an original birth certificate that fully resolved the Obama eligibility question.
I mourn the evisceration of our nation's once vigorous,cantankerous,free press –the institution we once counted on to search out and expose malfeasance in our governing operations.
