Liberals and their media allies need a reality check. The media is grilling Rush Limbaugh for calling Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a “slut”and a “prostitute.” The White House was appalled by this episode and called her to offer words of encouragement. Nice political move Barry, but did I miss something. Did we forget that MSNBC host Ed Schultz called Laura Ingraham “a right-wing slut last year?” I don’t remember Barry calling her to offer kind words of support of perseverance. Lets go back to 2008 when,on his radio show,Mr. Schultz said that Palin set off a “bimbo alert.”
Last April,left-wing blowhard Keith Olbermann’s tweeted that conservative commentator S.E. Cupp is the prime reason why Planned Parenthood should exist. A very nice way of saying she should have been aborted. Stay classy Olbermann. Kirsten Powers of the Daily Beast penned a great column exposing the misogyny within her ranks which,in my opinion,is more virulent than anything Limbaugh could have dished out.
Limbaugh called Fluke terrible things, but Olbermann called Michele Malkin a “mashed up bag a meat with lipstick.” Matt Taibbi, writer for the left-wing Rolling Stone magazine, posted on his blog in 2009 that when he reads Malkin’s “stuff”he “imagine[s] her narrating her text,book-on-tape style, with a big, hairy set of balls in her mouth.” However, the media never issues condemnation of this or called out Taibbi for this flagrant exercise in misogyny. It is because of incidents like this that the late Andrew Breitbart always retweeted the messages of hate the left threw at him to expose “the false narrative of their innate tolerance.”
I’m am not defending Rush Limbaugh. What he said was offensive, but liberals aren’t holier-than-thou on this subject either,in fact, they’re worse when it comes to their feelings about women. It is important,as George Will said last Sunday, for conservatives “to police the right in its excesses, just as liberal unfailing fail to police the excesses on their own side.” From the comments made by Taibbi,Olbermann, and Schultz,it appears liberals are content with those attacks. However,I commend members of the left, like Ms. Powers and Donna Brazile who admitted that,“We have pigs on the Democratic side,”but their impact on changing that narrative remains to be seen.
Rush has apologized, but conservatives need to call him out when he makes moronic comments about the issues. There are a multitude of ways to make your opinion that doesn’t involve,in this case, upsetting 51% of the American population. Conservatives had a legitimate case against the HHS mandate as intrusive, unconstitutional, and a prime example of the abuse of congressional authority. However, now that Rush has opened his mouth to our detriment,I agree with Peggy Noonan that the narrative is more convoluted. This gaffe was exactly what liberals were hoping for in order to portray conservatives waging this faux “war on women.” Misogyny has a more virulent character on the left Mr. Limbaugh. As Breitbart would say,“That’s how the left rolls.” Let them take that road less travelled.
