Despite President Obama “having Israel’s back,” he has scolded them for building settlements in East Jerusalem and said that a good starting point for peace talks is for Israel to return to the indefensible 1967 borders. As George Will notes, Israel has no strategic depth and resides in a region of the world where most would not lose sleep over the thought of having its inhabitants pushed into the sea. Every act of aggression must be treated as existential threat because usually they are.
The United States, specifically conservatives, have supported Israel and her efforts to defend herself. Sadly, this isn’t shared by members of the liberal media. Thomas Freidman, the priest of globalization, has a schizophrenic opinion towards the Jewish State. On one hand he feels that ”[M]oney in politics has never been more important for running campaigns,” Friedman writes, “and the Israel lobby — both its Jewish and evangelical Christian wings — has never been more influential, because of its ability to direct campaign contributions to supportive candidates.” Mr. Friedman, when money, Jews, and manipulation of power are the same narrative, you’re heading for rocky shoals.
Occupy AIPAC had former Grand Wizard of the KKK David Duke speak, who also gave some kind words when he attended a holocaust denial conference at Tehran, Iran in 2006. Jeffrey Blankfort, a program director for a radio station KZYX, thinks zionism is akin to national socialism and that Israel is responsible for 9/11. The Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank, and Media Matters have been labeled anti-semetic by Alan Dershowitz, who claims that he receives their newsletters via a neo-nazi website.
Lastly, Harvard, which is Barry’s alma mater, hosted an anti-Israel conference in which Professor Susan Akram stated:
“Israel’s claim of a state, on the basis of exclusive and discriminatory rights to Jews [sic], has never been juridically recognized. In other words, the concept of the Jewish people as a national entity with extraterritorial claims has never been recognized under international law.”
