Vitriol and ad hominem attacks are unfortunately nothing new in the political arena —particularly among those on the left. Sometimes, however,a particularly ludicrous comment gives some insight into how those on that side of the aisle actually feel about conservatives.
Deep within friendly territory during an interview on MSNBC,Congressman Steve Cohen (D-Memphis,Tenn.) doubled down on the hyperbolic rhetoric.
First,he suggested that support of the Second Amendment was tantamount to murder.
Describing fellow House Judiciary Committee members who favor gun rights,he said,“that’s Murderers’Row,”decrying the fact that many of them “like their guns.”
Despite giving his colleagues such an outrageous label,Cohen would not be satisfied until he had successfully trashed all Americans who support the right to bear arms.
“I think their guns are next there to their Bibles,”he said,in an apparent nod to Barack Obama’s infamous ‘bitter clingers’remark. “I think guns trump Bibles on that side of the aisle.”
The two major tenets on which this nation was founded —faith and personal protection —are identical to the ideals routinely condemned by modern progressives. Ironically, they somehow manage to contort their argument in a manner that makes it appear that they are actually defending the Constitution.
That thin veneer of patriotism is entirely transparent to all but the most faithful believers in the leftist ideal. Considering these career partisans surround themselves with only like-minded individuals, though, they are able to convince themselves that their radical opinions reflect national sentiment.
As the midterm elections of 2014 approach, real Americans are preparing to prove otherwise.
Here’s the video of Cohen making a fool out of himself:
