As Oct. 31 approaches,Americans of all ages plan to celebrate a holiday based on costumes and candy. While Michelle Obama has already tackled the candy aspect, the politically correct crowd is now targeting what it considers offensive costumes.
For example, the University of Colorado Boulder recently instructed students to forego any Halloween attire that could portray a minority in a negative light.
“Making the choice to dress up as someone from another culture, either with the intention of being humorous or without the intention of being disrespectful, can lead to inaccurate and hurtful portrayals of other people’s culture,”said dean of students Christina Gonzales.
Bigots and xenophobes were once identified by their negative opinion of other groups. Today’s overly sensitive culture,on the other hand, considers even the mere acknowledgment of another culture as inherently racist.
The theme of Halloween parties around campus have also been called into question. Students are told to stay away from any motif that could be considered disrespectful, including “ghetto”or “hillbilly”themed events.
Along with portrayals of other cultures, the school has also banned costumes with a sexual or criminal element.
Another school, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, has joined the crusade as well. School administrators instructed students to “keep in mind that certain Halloween costumes inappropriately perpetuate racial, cultural, and gender stereotypes.”
American universities, overwhelmingly led by leftists of the highest order, are intensely aware of even the slightest act of political incorrectness as it relates to a protected minority class. These same ideologues, however, are suspiciously quiet when conservatives are maligned and slandered with outright lies about their character.
