Tea Party Leader Explains Why School Choice Is Vital

In his address to attendees at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott expanded on his Opportunity Agenda, which helps level the playing field for the next generation by extending school choice to all students. The Western Center for Journalism was there as he explained the potential his plan would unleash on the American workforce.

Not only does the conservative leader favor giving families options in deciding where their children receive an education; he wants those schools to offer programs that equip interested students for a career.

“Every child doesn’t want to go to college,” he confirmed. “We should have a dual track.”

Providing adequate training for high school students will address the need for skilled workers in a number of trades being ignored as teens who decide not to attend college are increasingly expected to fend for themselves.

Scott’s plan, he said, would help “fill the four million vacancies we have in America.”

In his effort to expand opportunity and individual liberty, however, he noted that there are other issues in this nation that must be addressed in a timely manner.

“By limiting the government, we empower the people,” he said. “We don’t need the government and ObamaCare choosing our doctors.”

He explained that freedom-loving Americans are not interested in a federal government “forcing pizza companies to tell us how many calories are in our pizza.”

The healthcare law is full of mandates that stifle freedom, he explained.

“Some of y’all don’t want ObamaCare to increase taxes on tanning beds,” he said.

Scott embraced the conservative ideal that American freedom does not emanate from the government but exists in spite of it.

“America is about Americans and self-determination,” he said.

Political leaders, however, are often more interested in preserving their own power than the individual liberties enumerated in the U.S. Constitution.

“The greatest assets we have,” Scott continued, “cannot be found here in Washington, D.C. — except when CPAC is in town!”

He concluded that American potential is “found in the thoughts and ideas of people, not in the executive orders of this president.”

When he first entered office, He was receiving criticism from some in the black community I wrote and told what “His own Kind” will do and why. I’m Hispanic, when I received a promotion in my job. I caught a lot of flack from the other Hispanics, they would make comments such as “Hey Gringo…” or another one was “Hey now that you got a Gringo job don’t let it go to your head”. What it was, jealousy, it seems your own kind don’t want you to succeed in life, they want you to be down with them.
