This Woman Filmed Herself Having An Abortion, And She Has No Regrets

This is likely one of the most disturbing videos I have seen in a long time.

The video isn’t disturbing because it is graphic in its imagery (it’s not). It’s disturbing because it is graphic in content. Think about it: This is a video of a woman first deciding to kill and then killing the baby growing inside her. And saying she has no regrets about it.

Emily Letts released this film three months ago; but it recently came to my attention after her story was reported by Think Progress, a liberal publication.

Emily is an abortion “counselor” at Cherry Hill Women’s Center in New Jersey.

According to a column she wrote for Cosmopolitan, she learned she was pregnant last November. She was not using birth control, even though she was having sex with various partners. As she describes with a certain amount of levity,

Before this experience, hormonal birth control scared me because of complications I’d heard about from friends — gaining weight, depression, etc.

After defending herself by saying she tracked her ovulation cycles and didn’t have long term partners, she glibly remarks:

But, you know, things happen. I wound up pregnant.

After Emily found out she was pregnant, she immediately made a decision:

Once I caught my breath, I knew immediately I was going to have an abortion.

After she scheduled the abortion with her supervisor, she decided she needed to take advantage of this situation.

Patients at the clinic always ask me if I can relate to them — have I had an abortion? Do I have kids? I was so used to saying, “I’ve never had an abortion but…” While I was pregnant and waiting for my procedure, I thought, “Wait a minute, I have to use this.”

Her administrator heard about this and introduced her to a woman who has aptly named herself “Angie AntiTheist.”

This woman had earlier filmed herself taking an abortion pill and put it on YouTube.

Emily felt inspired by this woman’s act of murder on camera, and decided she needed to do her part. Since she couldn’t find any videos of a surgical abortion anywhere online, she felt like she needed to film it so that other women wouldn’t be afraid to undertake the same procedure.

She felt like the film was a very positive experience.

I knew the cameras were in the room during the procedure, but I forgot about them almost immediately. I was focused on staying positive and feeling the love from everyone in the room. I am so lucky that I knew everyone involved, and I was so supported.

Then she compared the experience to giving birth:

I remember breathing and humming through it like I was giving birth. I know that sounds weird, but to me, this was as birth-like as it could be. It will always be a special memory for me. I still have my sonogram, and if my apartment were to catch fire, it would be the first thing I’d grab.

This very well may be the most perverse part of her story. Any mother who has been through a birth herself or anyone who has been in the room should know what I mean. A childbirth is one of the most sacred things in this world. It is a moment when a new life enters the world outside of the safe confines of the mother’s womb. It is the culmination of nine months of anticipation, anxiety, sickness, and sacrifice. It is the beginning of new responsibilities, of caring for someone who relies utterly on you to survive.

And she compared the quick procedure to kill her baby to this beautiful moment.

According to the video, and to her column, Emily feels no guilt. According to her, any guilt that other women feel is just a result of societal pressure:

Our society breeds this guilt. We inhale it from all directions. Even women who come to the clinic completely solid in their decision to have an abortion say they feel guilty for not feeling guilty. Even though they know 110 percent that this is the best decision for them, they pressure themselves to feel bad about it.

I didn’t feel bad.

This is why this video is disturbing: Emily has no guilt. Either she has spent so long at her job rationalizing abortion away into a simple medical procedure, or she is a liar, or she is a psychopath. I hope she is lying.

Our society doesn’t breed guilt over abortion. To me, that guilt is a sign that God loves us enough to give us a chance to repent. It’s a sign that our nation still has a chance to turn back from the most horrific mass murder since the Holocaust.

At the end of the video, Emily says she feels awe. She feels awe that she “can make a baby,” that she “can make a life.” Even as she acknowledges that what she did snuffed out a human life, she refuses to feel sadness over what she has done.

I sincerely pray that Emily will be convicted in her heart for what she has done and seek forgiveness from God, the only one who can–and desires to–forgive us from every evil thing that we have ever done. I feel sad for Emily and for the precious baby that she ended that day.
