Ted Cruz Just Wiped The Floor With Obama Administration Over IRS Emails

Shortly after a batch of documents released by Judicial Watch showed the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups was being orchestrated by officials in the nation’s capital, Sen. Ted Cruz released a statement blasting the official narrative advanced by the White House.

When the same watchdog group produced email conversations last month indicating collusion between the Department of Justice and former IRS official Lois Lerner, Cruz explained that he “sent Attorney General [Eric] Holder a letter asking him to reconsider his decision to not appoint a special prosecutor in the IRS targeting scandal.”

With the release of even more documents Thursday, the Texas Republican explained the need for action became even clearer.

“And now today more emails have surfaced, this time showing that IRS targeting of Tea Party groups was coordinated from Washington D.C. – contrary to the Administration’s initial story that this was all done by lower ranking IRS officials in Cincinnati,” he continued.

The development, he stated, cast new light on the key players behind the scandal.

“So we now know the Department of Justice was involved with the IRS targeting,” he noted; “and the Administration’s initial explanation about the targeting was false.”

As a result, he said Holder must act decisively if he hopes to restore any trust the American people have in his ability to get to the bottom of the IRS’ actions.

“This Administration has lost all credibility to investigate this partisan scandal,” he concluded, “especially given that they have entrusted the investigation to be led by a major Democratic donor. A special prosecutor with real independence should be appointed immediately.”
