Missouri Just Made Planned Parenthood Very Mad With This Bill

A majority of legislators in the Show Me State want to make sure pregnant women interested in murdering a developing child have plenty of time to consider that life-changing – and life-ending – decision.

By overwhelming margins in both the state Senate and House, Missouri lawmakers voted to require women to wait three days from their first consultation with an abortionist before she may return to undergo the deadly procedure.

State Rep. Kevin Elmer supports the initiative, explaining the current waiting period is just 24 hours.

“The bill is a way to give a potential mother some additional time to think about this life-altering decision,” he explained; “and to talk to family and friends who can help provide support during what is undoubtedly a difficult and emotional time.”

Advocates with the organization Missouri Right to Life agreed, suggesting in a statement that the bill will “save babies and protect all women, both adults and minors, from abortion clinics seeking to make a profit on an abortion.”

According to Elmer, the motivation behind the bill was to “balance the rights of the mother with the rights of the unborn child.”

While the legislation would not entail “denying the mother her rights,” he noted, lawmakers are “simply asking her to give more thought before making a decision that she may later regret.”

At this time, there is no indication whether Gov. Jay Nixon will sign the proposal into law. If he does, Missouri will become the third state – in addition to Utah and South Dakota – to legislate such a waiting period.

Of course, anti-life leaders like Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards are weighing in against its passage.

“Governor Nixon must veto this bill and stand firmly with a woman’s right to make her own private medical decisions,” Richards said, “including the decision of whether to have an abortion, in consultation with her doctor.”

As Elmer explained, however, this bill would in no way restrict a woman’s access to legalized baby butchers – it would only give them a few more hours to give the decision some more thought. For many leftists, a waiting period is appropriate before an American can exercise his or her Second Amendment right, but completely absurd when it comes to slaughtering the unborn.
