DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson testified at a Homeland Security oversight hearing on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) pressed Johnson about the ongoing humanitarian crisis on the border with Mexico.
There are thousands of unaccompanied children being trafficked into Texas and Arizona with no one to look out for them.
Senator Cruz reminded Johnson that these people who are migrating into the U.S. are children, little boys and little girls.
“Their parents are handing them over not to some noble social worker trying to help them. They are handing them over to international, global criminal cartels that smuggle human beings.”
Cruz cited statistics of children being apprehended each year that seem to double and triple every year. “The humanitarian crisis that comes from failing to secure our border is staggering.”
