You Won’t Believe What His Neighbors Did When This US Vet Put An American Flag On His Porch

Flag could cause man to lose his home

The only thing Larry Murphfree is guilty of is his patriotism. The U.S. military vet wanted to proudly display his love for his country by placing a little American flag in a flower pot outside his home.

However, the homeowner’s association in his community have a different perspective. In response to this small act, they fined Murphfree $8,000 and placed a foreclosure lien on his house. Last year, he experienced a situation much like this one, but settled out of court after filing a lawsuit.

According to WTEV, the HOA flag display policy has been rewritten since then.

“I want it to go away,” said Murphfree, “And it’s such a minor little thing that they just keep coming after me.”

As it turns out, the state statute as well as federal law from 2005 support Murphfree’s freedom to display the U.S. flag. Yet, when the WTEV news station contacted the HOA’s attorney, they were told that if the payment is not made within 30 days, the law office could proceed to foreclose on the patriot’s home.

Murphfree refuses to give up and will continue to fight for his right to freely fly his flag.

“When I first moved here, I loved it,” Murphfree said. “It was wonderful, but it’s just gotten where I’m nitpicked more and more. It’s a lot of friends and neighbors moving out. I don’t want to move.”

In the past, several neighbors started a legal defense fund on his behalf. Murphfree hopes that a similar effort this time around might help him win this battle once and for all.
