The pages of The Washington Times today reflect the nation’s disenchantment with Barack Obama’s presidency. The op-ed section contains an article by Jeffrey T. Kuhner, president of the Edmund Burke Institute for American Renewal, entitled, “Don’t Go on Vacation — Just GO.”

Last September, Kuhner called for Obama’s impeachment. This year, he’s taken a new tack: Telling Obama to quit:

Mr. Obama is the most arrogant, self-absorbed and self-obsessed president in U.S. history. Nothing is ever his fault. He blames everyone and everything for America’s economic woes – Tea Partyers, Wall Street, Japanese earthquakes, insurance executives, oil companies, millionaires and corporate jet owners. He lashes out at imaginary enemies without ever taking personal responsibility. In his mind, he is – and always will be – the Anointed One.

There is only one solution: Drive him from office. Americans should forge a mass grassroots movement demanding that Mr. Obama step down – immediately. Through bumper stickers, picket signs, posters, T-shirts and rallies, tens of millions of citizens should express the same message: Leave. It is highly unlikely he will step aside, but such a movement would cripple the president’s authority and possibly blunt him from doing further harm. It also would puncture his boundless ego. A widespread manifestation of no confidence would break him – politically, morally and psychologically – in order to save America. Mr. Obama is out of his depth. He lacks the character, intelligence, skills and experience – the basic competence – to be the leader of the free world.

Resign, Mr. President.

Of course, Obama resigning is as likely to occur as Bill Clinton entering a monastery; they both love the thrill they get from their self-indulgent pursuits too much to forsake them for their own good, much less the nation’s. However, there is some value in his analysis.

A growing number of Democrats are sick of Obama, too. Contrary to what some people believe, political parties are not primarily dedicated to promoting ideals or ideologies. They are dedicated to power: getting it, exercising it, keeping it, and denying it to their enemies. Democrats understand this better than Republicans, in part because Democrats are the statist party, in part because Republicans believe in the transcendent values the Left denies. Democrats are happy Obama is president; they generally agree with him even when they are afraid to say so; and they hope he will be re-elected in 2012. But they saw the monumental butt-thumping the American people gave them in 2010, and they aren’t willing….

Obama scored another historical first on Friday, becoming the first president to see the U.S. credit rating downgraded by Standard & Poor’s, from AAA to AA+. While we hope his presidential reign lasts no longer than January 2013, Americans may have to live with the consequences of Obamanomics for more than a decade to come. The chairman of Standard & Poor’s sovereign debt ratings, John Chambers, told ABC’s This Week program on Sunday the United States could be stuck with the lower credit rating between nine and 18 years. “We’ve had five governments that lost their AAA that got it back,” he said. “The amount of time that it took for those five range from 9 years to 18 years.” He forecast that digging America out of the debt ditch “could take awhile,” and that it would require two things: “a stabilization of the debt as a share of the economy and eventual decline” and “more ability to reach consensus in Washington than what we’re observing now.”

The president’s commitment to deficit spending and unwillingness to make enforceable budget cuts leave a grim prognosis. But the outlook gets worse. As this author noted Friday, there is a chance America will be downgraded yet again. Chambers placed the odds of a future downgrade at one-in-three. Scoring a AA rating would place the Land of the Free on equal terms with Spain and Qatar.

These realities had Obama in full Alinsky mode during his 1 p.m. speech (which took place at two o’clock this afternoon). He opened by saying, while Tea Party intransigence forced S&P to cut our debt rating, “The markets, on the other hand, continue to believe our credit status is AAA.” To bolster his case, he added, “Warren Buffett, who knows a thing or two about good investments, said, ‘If there were a quadruple-A rating, I’d give the United States that.’” Even as he spoke, the stock market was in free fall. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 634.76 points this afternoon. The slide capped off a string of losses so severe that CNBC reports, on this eighth day of the month, “August is already on track to be the worst month for the S&P [500] and Nasdaq since Oct. 2008,” the first full month of the economic meltdown. And despite earning the Obama administration’s seal of approval, Standard & Poor’s marked down Buffett’s Birkshire Hathaway holding conglomerate from “stable” to “negative” today.

Obama’s Surrogates Savage the Savers

Democratic talking heads did their best to pin blame on their political opponents. This weekend, both David Axelrod and Sen. John Kerry repeated the phrase “Tea Party downgrade.”

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner eschewed presidential responsibility, as well. “Congress ultimately owns the credit rating of the United States,” he said. This would be true in the sense that Obama offered absolutely no leadership during the debate and presented no plan of his own but would overlook the president’s addiction to deficit spending and hostility to fiscal (or political) responsibility. Geithner, suddenly discovering the Founding Fathers, noted Congress has “the power of the purse in the Constitution.” That fact did not keep Geithner from publicly musing about having Obama unilaterally raise the debt ceiling in late June, leading to a chorus of Democrats demanding the president invoke the 14th Amendment to claim the power of the purse as his own.

Not everyone is reading from the same script, though. As usual, Bill and Hillary Clinton have taken the crisis to spin things in their favor. The Hill newspaper reports former Clinton administration appointees, who insisted on remaining anonymous, said Obama….

Hillary Fights Hard to Keep Taxpayers Funding Foreign Abortion, Pakistan, and Cuba

In these times of crushing debt loads, families are cutting back and prioritizing every dollar they spend. Yet the Obama administration is lashing out in a public way against efforts by House Republicans to rein in spending on overseas abortions and foreign aid to corrupt anti-American regimes.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is aggressively lobbying Congress to drop several amendments to the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, which she claims would be “debilitating” to her foreign policy. Madam Secretary vowed to “recommend personally” that Obama veto the bill in a letter to Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-FL.

At the top of Hillary’s list is the bill’s provision to ban U.S. taxpayers from funding foreign organizations that perform or promote abortion overseas. Otherwise known as the Mexico City Policy, which Ronald Reagan instituted in 1984, public financing of foreign abortions has been a political football for decades: Reagan instituted the policy, which remained in effect through the George H.W. Bush administration. Bill Clinton revoked it during his first week in office. George W. Bush reinstated the policy as one of his first actions, and in his first week in office, Barack Obama again rescinded it — by executive order, naturally.

In April, John Boehner passed a budget amendment reducing the amount of taxpayer dollars sent to the United Nations Family Planning Agency (UNFPA) by $15 million (to $40 million). It spent $575 million on international “family planning” and population control, less than the $648 million Congress authorized in 2010. This caused Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards to squeal that the Republicans had opened a war against “human rights.”

The Obama administration is fighting similar attempts to defund Planned Parenthood in the United States.

Of course during a time of unbearable public indebtedness and when the nation teeters on the precipice of default, the question is why is Congress spending a dime on abortion, let alone abortions around the world?

The answer is political cronyism and out of control feminism. Obama wants to keep the taxpayer-funding spigot flowing to his political supporters and Democratic Party contributors. And Hillary has spent a lifetime opposing the most fundamental right any woman should enjoy: the right to be born.

It is not the abortion funding ban alone that irks the former first lady. The bill slashes funding for the Global Climate Change Initiative — another boondoggle for the international Green Left.

She seems eerily fixated on the possibility the bill would deny funding to corrupt or violent foreign regimes. Hillary howls that….

A CIA/FBI agent was responsible for creating the first al-Qaeda training manual from classified military sources; he covertly moved up through the ranks undetected until the al-Qaeda spy, Egyptian born Ali Mohamed, was finally discovered. Though arrested in 1998, Mohamed’s whereabouts and legal status remain unknown. The Fort Hood jihadist, Nidal Malik Hasan, benefited from the same faulty screening.

The Jordanian-born “reformed” jihadist Humam Al-Balawi deceived some anxious CIA agents concerning the whereabouts of Ayman al-Zawahiri. As he passed their guard, he detonated a suicide belt, killing the agents. We were the first to translate the sinister plan of this Taliban spy, which was missed by the CIA but was advertised on his Arabic website for the whole Arabic world to read:

When I drive my car at a traffic police station …my surroundings change by a push of a flash button. I will find myself martyred as I drive a booby trapped Laurie with a bomb heading towards the pagan guards…

Why isn’t the CIA monitoring the Arabic words and connections of these people?

Whether it’s the CIA or the military, sophisticated surveillance is proving inadequate and proper background checks of Middle Easterners aren’t being done. Each example serves as another case in point. What makes us think that the State Department updated its virus protection program? Even more disconcerting than Ali and Al-Balawi is Hillary’s “aide” and Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin, who has been with Hillary since 1996; we believe she was never properly screened and is well positioned to exploit her American connections for the benefit of Islamic radicals.

When Anthony Weiner resigned few observers over 12 years old believed he was doing so because it was “the right thing to do” as taught to him by his typical liberal Democrat parents. Liberal Democrats are not hardwired to do things for any greater good save for that of the Democratic Party.

Those who watched his pro forma apology and resignation last week suspected there was more to the story and he was falling on his sword to hide something. That something now seems to be emerging and it is more hideous and alarming than we could have imagined: Weiner’s Muslim wife comes from a family of active members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Weiners’s mother-in-law and brother-in-law are members of an Islamist terror group. These facts beg many gut wrenching questions: How long has Secretary of State Hillary Clinton known her chief adviser is connected to the Muslim Brotherhood?

What “advice” has Hillary gotten from her Muslim Sisterhood member in residence? Did Huma Abedin use her influence on Hillary to have her recommend that America join in the effort to topple Gaddafi?

Was Huma Abedin, the wife of Anthony Weiner and the Deputy Chief of Staff to Hillary Clinton, unaware that her mother was reported as a member of the Muslim Brotherhood? Is it possible she does not know that her brother is tied to the Brotherhood’s radical leadership? Did Western media miss what has been revealed in several Arab newspapers, which has remained secret in American government circles?

Al-Liwa Al-Arabi (translated here) claims to have leaked an extensive list of members of the Brotherhood’s secret women’s division, which is known alternately as the Muslim Sisterhood or the International Women’s Organization (IWO). This detailed list was partially published by Al Jazeera and several other major Arab newspapers. And it included Huma’s mother, Saleha Abedin.

Egypt’s Al-Dostor revealed that the Sisterhood included 63 International members that span 16 different countries; it’s also confirmed by the Arab Centre for Research and Studies, headed by researcher Abdul Rahim Ali.

Neither Huma nor any major Western media outlet even mention what is common knowledge in the Arab world. Yet, Arab sources have confirmed that Huma Abedin has a brother named Hassan Abedin who works at Oxford University. Oxford University, which has long been infiltrated by Islamists who founded the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS), lists Huma’s brother as a fellow and partners with a number of Muslim Brotherhood members on the Board, including al-Qaeda associate Omar Naseef and the notorious Muslim Brotherhood leader Sheikh Youssef Qaradawi; both have been listed as OCIS Trustees. Naseef continues to serve as Board Chairman.….

Get Ready for ObamaCare Rationing

There were two recent announcements that I hope you paid attention to:

The American Medical Group Association, representing medical groups that provide care for roughly 1 in 3 Americans, said that 90% of its members would not participate in the new Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model the Obama administration wants to impose on Medicare providers.
Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, exercising new powers conferred upon her by health reform (ObamaCare), said insurers would have to justify any rate increases greater than 10%.

So what does one announcement have to do with the other? A lot. I’ll connect the dots below.

Here’s the bottom line. The administration uses the rhetoric of choice and competition and some isolated souls within it may actually think competitive pressures can reduce health care costs. But if that doesn’t work out, it’s goodbye to volunteerism and hello to another way of constraining costs: global budgets and rationing.

The core of Obama administration health reform is managed competition, instituted through a health insurance exchange. In embracing this reform, the administration is following the lead of Mitt Romney in Massachusetts and before that Hillary Clinton’s failed attempt in 1993/94. But the idea really harks back to a book written by Stanford professor Alain Enthoven in the early 1980s. Enthoven argued that the entire health care system should be patterned after the Federal Employees Health Benefits system. (See a brief history and analysis.)

Here’s the difference. Enthoven believed (and still does believe) that competition in health insurance can actually work. Mitt Romney believed that as well. Maybe Hillary Clinton did too. But almost no one in the Obama administration believes that. When is the last time you heard any federal official praising the virtues of a competitive market for any good or service?

For Obama, the purpose of the health insurance exchange is not to bring needed competition to an imperfectly competitive market. The purpose is to exert control over the industry. If you believe in competition, then you want lots of competitors. But the administration is imposing rules and regulations that are driving insurers from the market, as we have previously reported here, here and here. In fact, some careful observers believe that by the time the exchanges become operational (in 2014) there will be only one or two insurers left in most markets….

If Hillary is bisexual (as had long been thought and occasionally uttered in public), what is the nature of her relationship with the dark eyed enchanting Abedin, a young lady from a strict Muslim family?

Is the fact that Huma was never seen twice in the same designer outfit and lived in a $649,000 condo explainable because she was trading sexual favors with Hillary for a fabulous lifestyle?

If so what does that make Huma?

How did Huma, whose government salary was listed as $9,999, live as she did?

Is Hillary Clinton a lesbian?….

The GOP Alternative: Dither or Cave?

How did it come about that Congress got so overloaded with Republicans who want to bend over backwards to accommodate a “president” who hates America and tramples on the Constitution on a daily basis? It appears they are going to allow the debt ceiling to be raised with only minor cuts in spending, if that. This at a time when what is left of our economy is about to completely collapse, as the Democrats have worked so hard to assure. Our Republican “leadership” seem focused on choosing between dithering or caving. Oh, the tough choices! No wonder they pay themselves four times what the average American makes, plus expenses!

However, so as not to appear to be obsessed with the economy, they also have shown that they can dither and cave on foreign policy, too. It’s truly pathetic when raging socialists like Dennis Kucinich, D-OH, and Jerrold Nadler, D-NY, are far ahead of Republicans in stopping the unconstitutional war that Obama-Soetoro has gotten us into in Libya. In a speech in support of Kucinich’s bill mandating withdrawal of our troops in 15 days, Nadler accused Obama-Soetoro of acting like a king and a dictator. Boehner, in contrast, wants to play golf with him.

Eighty-seven Republicans voted for Kucinich’s bill. The rest wimped-out. Many knowledgeable people are now saying that Obama-Soetoro’s refusal to comply with the War Powers Act is an impeachable offense. Not among this group is the Republican “leadership,” which is far too busy deciding whether to dither or cave on the issue.

Thus, it appears another golden opportunity to get the Marxist Usurper out of the White House is going to be lost. The Republican “leadership” is becoming….
